29.09.2011 Lukasz Falls To Davydenko

No. 5 seed Russian Nikolay Davydenko fought hard to defeat Lukasz 6-3, 7-6(2) in one hour and 27 minutes in the second round of the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur. It was the pair’s first meeting since the 2006 Australian Open.

The Russian was in better form today. The match featured seven breaks of serve and only three to Lukasz. In the second set, Lukasz had a big chance to send the match into the third set, but he lost three games in a row when leading 5-2 and eventually lost in the tie-break 7-2.

"At 5-2 down in the second set, I was already thinking about the third set," said Davydenko. "I was just fighting for the points and was able to come back and win it in two sets. Sometimes it happens that way."

Lukasz’s next stop is Tokyo.
