Lukasz suffered defeat at the hands of Spain's Nicolas Almagro in the first round of the Australian Open. He lost 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-5 in a little over three hours.
The first set was a one-way traffic for Lukasz, who reeled off five straight games to take the 30-minute set 6-1. Almagro then began to fight back as he raced to a 3-0 lead. Lukasz responded by taking the next three games. From that poin on, both players held serves until the twelfth game when Lukasz dropped serve, letting the Spaniard secure the set 7-5.
The third and fourth sets were decided by a single service break in Almagro's favour. In the third set he broke in the eighth game. In the fourth, he broke Lukasz to go 6-5 ahead and served out the match in the following game.
Lukasz will also play in doubles with his doubles partner, Marcel Granollers of Spain.
