13.07.2017 Lukasz/Melo through to Wimbledon final

Lukasz and his partner Marcelo Melo kept alive their hopes of capturing a first Grand Slam trophy together on Thursday when they booked their place in the Wimbledon doubles final. The fourth seeds beat no.1 seeds and Australian Open titlists Henri Kontinen and John Peers 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 4-6, 9-7 in three hours and 32 minutes.

The first break point of the 64-minute final set was a match point and it came on the Henri Kontinen serve. He and Lukasz got engaged in a long rally, but Melo eventually got an opportunity at the net and put away the winning shot. Lukasz and Marcelo broke their rivals five times from 10 opportunities and saved one of three break points they faced.

They improved to 13-0 on grass this season after titles at the Ricoh Open (d. Klaasen/Ram) and Gerry Weber Open (d. Zverev/Zverev).

Stats: aces (4-10), double faults (6-7), winners (19-18), total points won (167-149).

The Polish/Brazilian pairing will take on either Croatian team Nikola Mektic/Franko Skugor, or Oliver Marach (AUT)/Mate Pavic (CRO) duo. Lukasz won Australian Open in 2014 (w/Lindstedt), while Melo was victorious at 2015 Roland Garros (w/Dodig).
